Discovering the Charm and Beauty of Bokeelia, Florida

I had looked at Pine Island many time on the internet, thinking that I would plan it as one of our places to explore on the way to Sanibel. We had visited Matlacha before, but didn’t go past there.

We usually do “all girl” trips to Florida, but my husband was with me this time and I wanted to show him Matlacha. So, after looking around Leoma Lovegrove Gallery, we decided to drive to Bokeelia.

Funny thing, after you hit the island, all cell phone reception and GPS signals are lost….

Well, I wasn’t sure exactly where Bokeelia was or how to get there. As a matter of fact, I had no clue about any of the roads on the island. So, I pretended I knew where it was and guessed on telling my hubby where to turn! After about 3 miles:

Hubby: How much farther?

Me: Well, I don’t really know.

Hubby: What do you mean you don’t know?

Me: Well, I’m not really sure if we are even on the right road, I just know it’s north…

I won’t tell you the rest of the conversation. Let’s just say that a man without a map or GPS gets a little grumpy! 😐

We finally made it to Bokeelia. It was 13 miles from the main road where we turned for the record.😉

It was so peaceful and relaxing! I think the nice fishing piers and watching all the guys catching fish helped the hubby chill.

Two fishing piers, a restaurant, and a gift shop pretty much make up the area. There are many adorable cottages and tons of palm trees everywhere though.

So, if you are looking for a quite place to relax and view nature, Bokeelia is the place. Tropic Star also offers cruises to Cayo Costa, Cabbage Key, and Boca Grande leaving from the area.

A Beautiful Island - Grand Turk

Carnival Cruise

The first port of call on the Southern Caribbean Cruise leaving from Fort Lauderdale, Florida is Grand Turk.  After spending two nights and a full day at sea,we were so ready to go ashore and explore. We decided not to take an excursion since there was a nice beach, shopping, and a Margaritaville with a nice pool at the port area.

Welcome to Grand Turk!

The beach in front of the shopping area provides plenty of shade and chairs for relaxing. All of this is free to use.

Margaritaville Caribbean is beautiful and has a large pool area that is free to use This is where you are sure to get a few laughs. There is always some kind of contest going on that gives people a chance to have fun!

A massage on the beach. It doesn't get much better than this! The massages we got were wonderful!

The boats waiting to take people on their excursions. The boats leave pretty quickly leaving the beach clear and free for swimming.

The water was clear and clean.

We snorkeled from the beach. There is not much coral, but fish and other sea life are abundant in this area.

We walked a good ways down the beach and came upon this beautiful site.

This is the only port on this cruise that has a beautiful beach where we docked.

There are quite a few little shops in this area. We found cute dresses, shirts, and a few other tings really cheap.

We had a nice relaxing day at this port.I would love to go back and maybe see more of the island next time.

Happy Travels!
